Barcelona Appoints Hansi Flick As New Head Coach After Xavi’s Departure

Barcelona swiftly secured a deal with former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick as their new head coach, just hours after announcing Xavi Hernández’s departure at the end of the season, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Hansi Flick is set to sign a full two-year deal instead of the initially reported one-year agreement with an option for a second season by the Catalan outlets. However, confirmation on this detail will have to wait until the official announcement is made.

Flick rose to prominence when he assumed the role at Bayern following Nico Kovac’s dismissal in 2019. He achieved remarkable success, securing the Sextuple in 2020, highlighted by the memorable 8-2 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Subsequently, Hansi experienced significantly less success with the German national team, falling short of advancing from the group stage in the 2022 World Cup. He was ultimately dismissed by Germany after registering just 12 wins in 25 matches during his two-year tenure.

It has been reported that Flick has shown a keen interest in the Barcelona job ever since Xavi Hernández initially announced his departure in January. Now, President Joan Laporta sees him as the key figure to revitalize the Blaugrana following a challenging season on the field.

The official confirmation of Hansi’s appointment is anticipated shortly after the conclusion of the season, following Sunday’s La Liga finale against Sevilla.
