Barcelona Close To Signing Swedish Wonderkid Roony Bardghji From Copenhagen
Barcelona are nearing their second signing of the summer, as Copenhagen prodigy Roony Bardghji appears to be close to joining the Catalan club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for Bardghji is expected to be finalized soon.
The 19-year-old Swedish prodigy has attracted the attention of Europe’s top clubs since making his debut for Copenhagen at just 16 years old. Over the past two years, both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have sent scouts to observe Bardghji.
With his contract set to expire at the end of 2025, Barcelona saw an opportunity to sign him at a lower transfer fee.
Deal for Bardghji expected to be concluded this week
Fabrizio Romano reports that a deal for Bardghji is close to being finalized in the coming days, with the agreement in its final stages. The 19-year-old is expected to join Barcelona in July.
Although Porto had previously made an offer, Barcelona’s bid remains the most appealing amid interest from several European clubs.
What role could Bardghji have at Barcelona?
Barcelona’s plans for using Bardghji next season are not yet fully clear. The young talent typically plays on the right wing, cutting inside onto his left foot, similar to Lamine Yamal, though he leans more towards playing as a striker than Barcelona’s current starter.
It’s worth noting that Bardghji has been recovering from nearly a year out due to a cruciate ligament injury and is only now returning to full fitness.
It appears challenging for Bardghji to secure a significant role in the first team, especially if Barcelona proceeds with signing Nico Williams as planned.
With Barca Atletic now relegated to the fourth tier, playing time there seems less appealing for the young winger.
As a result, a loan move next season to continue his development might be likely, although Barcelona has been less inclined to opt for loans in recent times.
