Barcelona Confirms New Long-Term Contract For Pau Cubarsi
Barcelona has confirmed that teenage center-back Pau Cubarsi has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
Cubarsi emerged as a prominent player last January at only 17 years old, swiftly establishing himself as a vital member of the first team, despite having limited experience.
The youngster was officially added to the senior squad ahead of the current campaign and has now pledged his future to Barcelona until the summer of 2029.
Cubarsi, who celebrated his 18th birthday just three weeks ago, has impressively accumulated 60 appearances for Barcelona. He is a key member of a robust La Masia core within the squad, joining talented players such as Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Alejandro Blade, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Casado.
The Spain international’s place has been unaffected by vice-captain Ronald Arauo’s return to fitness. He has partnered Inigo Martinez for much of the campaign and it is likely to be the veteran who loses out, although both Martinez and Araujo have suffered minor recent injuries.
Remarkably, Cubarsi hasn’t even finished school yet, in the process of completing his final year.
“I train in the morning and go to class at three in the afternoon. The teachers from Lleo XIII (school) come to La Masia and I have class until eight in the evening,” he revealed to RAC1 in November.
“If there’s a Champions League, I have to ask for notes or be attentive the next day to catch up. Sometimes it’s difficult to study, but I’d like to study a degree in marketing or business administration, but first I have to finish high school and then we’ll see.”
