Barcelona Reaches New Contract Agreement With Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski has reached an agreement with Barcelona to remain with the club until at least the summer of 2026, a report in Spain has claimed.
The Poland international, Robert Lewandowski, has been the subject of intense speculation regarding a potential exit from Barcelona.
Numerous reports indicate that as he approaches his 37th birthday, the Blaugrana are increasingly motivated to part ways with the prolific striker after the current season.
Lewandowski, however, has publicly played down the speculation and has insisted he wants to continue with Barcelona for the foreseeable future.
The exact terms of Lewandowski’s Barcelona contract have been a mystery for a while now. It was initially rumored to expire in 2025 but with a 12-month extension clause that would be automatically triggered if he plays over half of his side’s games this season something which will happen against Rayo Vallecano next Monday.
However, SPORT stresses that Lewandowski’s contract actually runs until 2026, and Barcelona has the option to terminate his deal this summer if he does not play a sufficient number of games.
Lewandowski is on track to comfortably surpass the minimum threshold of appearances required to extend his stay in Catalonia through the 2025/26 season.
However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, any uncertainty surrounding his future was alleviated recently when Barcelona and Lewandowski reached a verbal agreement to continue their collaboration for another year.
The veteran striker has not hidden his desire to remain at the club, while his family are also planning for a future in Barcelona as well, while those in charge of the team are not concerned about an imminent drop in performance from Lewandowski.
After 33 games this season, Lewandowski sits on 31 goals and three assists, retaining his status as one of the best strikers in the world as he approaches his 37th birthday.
The future of Lewandowski beyond 2026 remains uncertain. It has been emphasized that his current agreement with Barcelona does not incorporate a renewal clause, suggesting that both parties are anticipating a separation in 18 months.
