Brobbey Scores Last-Minute Equaliser As Sunderland Hold Arsenal To Dramatic Draw

on

‎Unbelievable drama unfolded at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland snatched a last-gasp 2-2 draw against league leaders Arsenal, thanks to Brian Brobbey’s dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time.

Fierce Encounter from the Start

‎From the first whistle, the tone was set for a fiery and fast-paced clash.

‎Arsenal, full of confidence after a string of dominant displays, sought to tighten its grip on the top of the table. Sunderland, however, had other ideas playing with the belief and energy that have turned the Stadium of Light into one of the league’s most intimidating venues this season.

‎Sunderland’s first chance of the game fell to Wilson Isidor, who dragged his effort wide from a tight angle.

But the Black Cats made their second opportunity count, as Arsenal academy graduate Daniel Ballard powered home Nordi Mukiele’s knockdown to bring an end to the Gunners’ run of eight consecutive clean sheets

Arsenal responded with greater intensity after the break, stringing together sharper passes in the final third. Martín Zubimendi forced Roefs into action with a low drive, while Bukayo Saka soon fired wide.

The winger made amends moments later, however, latching onto Mikel Merino’s pass and firing home with his weaker right foot to level the score.

‎Trossard’s Magic Appears to Seal the Win

‎As the second half reached its end, Arsenal’s relentless pressure began to tell. Sunderland’s defence stood firm for long stretches, but cracks began to show.

‎The visitors’ patience was rewarded when Leandro Trossard produced a moment of pure class a curling strike from the edge of the box that sailed into the top corner beyond Roefs’ despairing dive.

Brobbey’s Controversial Equaliser

‎Deep into added time, Sunderland launched one last hopeful attack. A long throw from Ballard was flicked on inside the area, and Brian Brobbey, showing immense determination and athleticism, hurled himself toward the ball to smash home an acrobatic finish.

‎There were furious appeals from Arsenal players for a foul in the buildup, but after a brief VAR check, the goal stood sparking pandemonium among the home supporters.

‎Even after Brobbey’s strike, the drama wasn’t done. Arsenal pushed forward desperately in search of a winner, only for Roefs to produce a brilliant reflex save to deny Riccardo Calafiori’s header.

‎Moments later, Ballard threw his body on the line to block Merino’s rebound, ensuring Sunderland held firm until the final whistle.

What the Result Means

‎For Arsenal, the draw was a bitter pill to swallow. Despite extending their unbeaten head-to-head run to 16 league games against Sunderland, they missed the golden opportunity to move nine points clear at the summit.

‎For Sunderland, however, this was a statement of intent. Four games unbeaten and now sitting third in the table, Tony Mowbray’s men are proving to be far more than plucky underdogs.
