Chelsea Accelerate Interest In Semenyo With Rivals Prepared To Trigger Clause
Chelsea have taken their first step toward signing Antoine Semenyo, moving ahead of rivals Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for the Bournemouth forward.
It reports that the Blues have reached out to Semenyo’s representatives to register their interest and begin early discussions over a potential January move.
The 25-year-old Ghana international has a £65million release clause in his contract, signed in the summer, which is active for the first ten days of next month’s transfer window.
Semenyo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most in-form forwards this season, registering eight goals and three assists in 16 games for Bournemouth.
His performances have attracted strong interest from Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Chelsea have now stepped up their pursuit as they aim to win what is expected to be a fierce race for his signature, having seen Tottenham explore a move in the summer.
Chelsea holds a longstanding interest in Semenyo, which dates back to a failed bid for the player, then at Bristol City, in 2019.
Bournemouth’s hierarchy is growing resigned to losing Semenyo due to the sheer volume of interest in him.
His release clause, structured to give the club time to find a replacement within the same window, is viewed across the game as both reasonable and accessible. Semenyo has scored three goals for Ghana since making his senior debut in 2022.
He is also expected to be one of the Black Stars’ standout players at next summer’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
