Chelsea Agrees João Pedro Signing From Brighton Ahead Of New Season
Chelsea has reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign João Pedro.
The 23-year-old Brazilian, who was also targeted by Newcastle United, chose to join Chelsea exclusively.
A deal exceeding £50 million has been finalized, and personal terms have been agreed upon for a contract running until 2032.
Medical checks are being arranged and subject to successful completion, he will become part of Chelsea’s squad contesting the Club World Cup in the U.S.
The transfer will bring a versatile forward to an attack that has already been strengthened during the summer transfer window.
Liam Delap, who joined from Ipswich Town, will be joined at Stamford Bridge by Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
João Pedro missed Brighton’s final two matches of the season after a training ground altercation with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler later said the altercation was dealt with internally and he considered the matter “closed”.
In addition to Delap, Chelsea has also signed Dario Essugo, Estevao, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez following previous agreements. Jadon Sancho has left Stamford Bridge after a season-long loan.
Chelsea has also brought in multiple players from Brighton in recent seasons, including Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, and Robert Sanchez.
Additionally, Levi Colwill spent the 2022-23 season on loan at the South Coast club.
João Pedro has three caps for Brazil since making his international debut in November of last year.
