Chelsea Agrees Terms With Enzo Maresca To Become New Head Coach

Chelsea has reached an agreement on a five-year contract with Enzo Maresca to become their new head coach. The Italian is expected to make the switch from Leicester, where he guided the team to the Premier League promotion as champions in April.

Despite having just one full season of senior team management experience, Maresca has made a positive impression on the Chelsea hierarchy. He will succeed Mauricio Pochettino, who departed by mutual consent after the club closed the season with five consecutive victories to secure a sixth-place finish.

Maresca led Parma in 14 matches in 2021 before being dismissed. His significant coaching experience includes stints at Manchester City, where he initially coached the elite development squad and later served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola with the first team.

Chelsea have been in talks with Maresca regarding potential transfer targets, including Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. The club is also looking to boost its squad with a center-back, left-back, and striker.

Chelsea explored other options, such as Kieran McKenna, who recently extended his contract with Ipswich, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank. Maresca, who previously played in England with West Brom, later featured for clubs like Juventus and Sevilla.
