Crystal Palace Defender Marc Guéhi On The verge Of Joining Manchester City
Manchester City is closing a deal to sign Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace.
With his contract due to expire at the season’s end, Palace could be willing to sell for around £40m
The England international nearly completed a move to Liverpool in the summer before Palace withdrew. Guéhi is reportedly keen on a switch to City, and personal terms are not expected to be a problem for a player who has indicated he would not extend his Palace contract.
Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, said on Friday that the deal was in its final stages, on a day when he also revealed he would be leaving the club in the summer.
Guéhi, he said, will not be involved in Palace’s game at Sunderland on Saturday.
Manchester City are dealing with a central-defence crisis, with Rúben Dias sidelined by a hamstring injury and Josko Gvardiol recovering from a tibial fracture. John Stones is also out with a thigh problem, and his contract is unlikely to be renewed this summer.
To ease the shortage, Pep Guardiola has recalled 20-year-old Max Alleyne from his loan at Watford.
Guéhi’s former club, Chelsea, will be due 20% of any fee, as part of the package that took him to Palace in 2021. Barcelona have held talks over signing Barcelona have discussed a potential move for Guéhi, and Bayern Munich showed interest in a free transfer, but they have been outpaced by City.
Guéhi would be City’s second signing of the window, following Antoine Semenyo’s move from Bournemouth for an initial £62.5m.
