Deco Identifies Key Departures To Fund Barcelona’s Summer Targets
FC Barcelona is preparing for a transformative summer transfer window one shaped by high-profile targets but restricted by financial limitations.
With the club still operating under tight economic controls, sporting director Deco has already drawn up a plan that prioritizes strengthening key positions while funding those moves through targeted departures.
Barcelona’s Two Major Transfer Targets
Barcelona has identified two elite signings as its primary objectives for the summer. The first is Alessandro Bastoni, who is viewed as the ideal left-sided centre-back to reinforce a defence that has lacked stability and depth.
His composure on the ball and tactical intelligence make him a perfect stylistic fit for Barcelona’s positional system.
The second major target is Julián Álvarez. Barcelona believes the striker’s versatility, pressing intensity, and high conversion rate could elevate the attack significantly.
Both players together would cost an estimated £112m, highlighting the scale of Barcelona’s ambition despite financial constraints.
A New Winger on the Agenda
Alongside Bastoni and Álvarez, Barcelona are also pursuing a winger. Marcus Rashford continues to be monitored, especially with the club in possession of a £26m purchase option.
Rashford represents a high-profile solution, but Barcelona is simultaneously exploring younger and more affordable alternatives.
Among the names considered are Andreas Schjelderup, Jan Virgili, and Victor Munoz. These players offer long-term potential at a fraction of the cost, and their profiles match Barcelona’s renewed emphasis on youth, projection, and financial sustainability.
Sales Needed to Finance the Summer Plan
Due to financial limitations, Barcelona will not be able to complete its transfer priorities without generating income through sales.
Deco has identified two likely departures Ferran Torres and Marc Casado.
Ferran Torres Likely to Leave
Torres has not been offered a contract extension, with his current deal expiring in 2027. The forward has experienced a prolonged dip in form, having gone without a goal since 31 January.
For Barcelona, a sale would bring a significant transfer fee estimated at around £43m while reducing the wage bill. Several English clubs, including Newcastle in previous windows, have shown interest, and a departure appears increasingly inevitable.
Marc Casado’s Situation
Casado is another player whose future appears to be elsewhere. Although admired by the coaching staff, he has struggled to secure consistent minutes in Barcelona’s congested midfield department.
Barcelona were open to selling him in January, and with interest from Atlético Madrid and a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia, a summer move would align with both the club’s financial needs and the player’s desire for more regular football.
Casado, valued at roughly £17m, would represent a straightforward financial boost.
