Diallo Strikes Late As Manchester United Held To Draw At Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest’s search for a second Premier League (PL) win of the season continues after a thrilling 2–2 draw against Manchester United at the City Ground.
Despite leading deep into the second half, Forest were denied by a late Amad Diallo strike, extending their winless run to nine matches since the opening weekend.
Casemiro Punishes Forest
Manchester United entered the contest as one of just three teams to have maintained a perfect record in October, and they started brightly in Nottingham. Ruben Amorim’s side, brimming with attacking intent, quickly put the hosts under pressure.
Benjamin Šeško, handed another start-up front, twice found himself in promising positions within the opening 15 minutes. On both occasions, the Slovenian failed to hit the target first dragging wide from a tight angle and then slicing over after being set up by Luke Shaw.
For Forest, attacking moments were scarce. Their frustrations were compounded when Douglas Luiz limped off early with a suspected muscular injury.
Elliot Anderson grew into the game and provided some creative spark, but clear-cut chances remained elusive.
United finally made their dominance count from a contentious corner. Casemiro rose highest to meet Bruno Fernandes’ delivery, powering a header beyond Matz Sels to notch his fifth goal involvement in eight appearances against Forest.
Callum Hudson-Odoi’s speculative long-range effort, easily dealt with by Senne Lammens, summed up Forest’s tame first-half performance, while United’s backline, with Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt, looked composed and disciplined.
Forest Explodes into Life
Whatever Sean Dyche said at halftime worked wonders. The Tricky Trees came out with renewed purpose and energy, pressing United deeper and faster.
Their persistence paid off spectacularly with two goals in just 92 seconds.
First, Morgan Gibbs-White connected beautifully with Ryan Yates’ floated cross, his looping header sailing over Lammens and into the net to level the score. The City Ground erupted in belief, suddenly restored.
Before United could regroup, Forest struck again. A teasing ball into the box caused panic, and Nicolò Savona reacted quickest, sneaking in behind slack United marking to tuck home from close range.
The turnaround was complete, and the home crowd could hardly believe what they were witnessing.
United, rattled by the sudden shift in momentum, looked vulnerable at the back. Fernandes tried to drag his side back into it, curling a low drive that struck the post.
Forest, meanwhile, smelled blood. Hudson-Odoi’s dazzling run down the left nearly produced a third goal, his driven shot flashing inches wide of the far post.
Amad Diallo Saves United
As the match entered its final stages, Forest began to retreat a decision that would cost them dearly. United piled bodies forward, sensing a late lifeline.
Their persistence paid off when Forest failed to clear a corner. The ball dropped kindly for Amad Diallo, who lashed home a thunderous left-footed volley into the roof of the net to make it 2–2.
It was a goal of pure instinct and composure, silencing the City Ground and rescuing a point for the visitors.
There was still time for late drama. Amad came agonizingly close to a winner, only to see his shot blocked on the line by Murillo. Forest, clinging on, eventually secured a share of the spoils a result that felt more like a missed opportunity than a success.
