Dortmund Manager Terzic Optimistic For UCL Turnaround Despite Injuries
Borussia Dortmund’s manager, Edin Terzic, is expecting a strong response from his team in the upcoming second leg against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite a 2-1 loss in the first leg at the Metropolitano Stadium, Terzic remains optimistic about Dortmund’s chances of turning the tie around in Tuesday’s match. The last time Dortmund made it to the Champions League semi-finals was in 2013 under Jurgen Klopp, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich in the final.
“Atletico forced us into mistakes last week,” Terzic told reporters on Tuesday. “But we have everything in our own hands tomorrow to progress to the next round. We know that our opponents are very experienced. We want to do better from the start tomorrow.
He continues “When you play against Atletico, individual mistakes are immediately penalized. We will show what must not happen to us tomorrow. But what’s much more important is how we react. We are ready to make up for mistakes.”
Sebastien Haller who found the net in the first leg, will miss the upcoming match after sustaining an ankle injury during Dortmund’s 2-1 Bundesliga victory against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
“(Haller) unfortunately sustained an injury to his ankle again,” Terzic said. “He is now getting a full week of rest. There will be a final diagnosis on Saturday to define the period of absence slightly more clearly. We’re assuming that he won’t be available for two to three weeks.”
Terzic remains optimistic that winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will participate in team training, despite being substituted during the Moenchengladbach game due to injury.
Additionally, Dortmund will be boosted by the return of midfielder Jadon Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, who missed the Moenchengladbach match due to illness.
