Chelsea were satisfied with a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage but later faced a key decision that went against them. Olga Carmona opened the scoring for Real in the 10th minute, her shot deflecting off Millie Bright and beating goalkeeper Anne-Katrin Berger.

Chelsea equalized before half-time with Niamh Charles’ header from Ashley Lawrence’s cross. Charles fired a powerful header past Sam Kerr with less than 15 minutes remaining.

However, Jessie Fleming was awarded a penalty for bringing down Athena Del Castillo, which allowed Carmona’s shot to go into the top corner. Chelsea were angry at the penalty kick and offside decision for Charles’ late goal. Lauren James also missed a chance to hit the crossbar as Emma Hayes’ side was held to a draw in her first UWCL game.
