Emery Unveils The Secret Behind Asensio And Rashford’s Confidence At Aston Villa
Forward Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford are rapidly integrating into Aston Villa’s playing style and gaining confidence, according to manager Unai Emery.
Their impressive collaboration was evident as they helped the team to a commanding 2-0 victory over Cardiff City, securing a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Rashford provided an assist to fellow January signing Asensio for the opening goal against Cardiff, a team from the English second tier, during their match at Villa Park on Friday.
This performance followed their prior encounter, where Rashford assisted Asensio for both of his goals in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Chelsea at home last Saturday.
England international Rashford is on loan from Manchester United, while Asensio is a Paris St Germain loanee.
“They are adapting to the structure…” Emery told reporters.
“They have a lot of skills to add to our structure, helping us like they are doing. They are scoring goals and getting assists for their teammates, playing in our structure, and feeling comfortable.
“They’re getting more confidence. It’s important how every player is trying to support and to help in our structure, getting us as strong as possible.”
Emery said it was important to enjoy the moment as Villa reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in a decade.
However, he did not view his team as the clear favorite to claim the title, given that Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are still competing.
“We know this competition is a way for a trophy, a way for Wembley, a way for Europa League and prestige for the club and the supporters are excited and motivated to try and share this opportunity with us,” Emery said.
Villa’s next match is an away game against Belgian club Club Brugge for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday.
