Erling Haaland Breaks Silence On Man City’s 115 Charges After Signing New Contract
Erling Haaland has backed Manchester City to clear their name in the ongoing legal battle against the Premier League.
City faces 115 alleged violations of the league’s financial regulations, leading many to speculate that a guilty verdict could result in Pep Guardiola’s team being forcibly relegated from the Premier League.
That appears to be of no concern to Haaland as the 24-year-old signed one of the biggest contracts in football history to tie himself to City until 2034.
Asked whether he had negotiated himself a potential exit route if City are relegated at the end of the legal dispute, Haaland simply laughed, “No.”
“I haven’t thought of that or anything,” he continued. “I’m confident that the club knows what they are doing. And, yeah, in the end… I don’t think I should speak much about this.
“I’ve been here for two and a half years, so, yeah, I’m confident that the club knows what they’re doing.”
Haaland’s new contract comes as an enormous blow to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, who were plotting to take advantage of the increasingly feasible release clause in his previous contract.
When questioned about the possibility of joining Madrid or another European powerhouse in the future, Haaland responded with humor.
He responded, “To Madrid? I’ve just signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract with City, what can I say?
“I’m happy not to play for any of those teams, and with my choice. I’m looking forward to spending many more years in Manchester, and that’s all.”
