Ethan Nwaneri Set To Sign New Arsenal Contract Despite Interest From Chelsea And Bundesliga Clubs
Ethan Nwaneri is set to commit his future to Arsenal by signing a new contract, despite interest from Chelsea and clubs in Germany.
Negotiations with Nwaneri’s representatives are reportedly nearing completion, with a four-year contract and an option to extend by an additional year already agreed in principle. The 18-year-old, who is in the last 12 months of his current deal, has recently been linked with Chelsea.
Additionally, Borussia Dortmund was also thought to be interested following his impressive breakthrough season, during which he scored nine goals in 37 appearances.
However, Arsenal remained confident that Nwaneri, who joined their academy at the age of eight, would follow in the footsteps of his fellow teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly by extending his stay.
Nwaneri was part of the England squad that triumphed in the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia and was granted an extended break.
He is expected to join the squad traveling to Singapore on Saturday for Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Arsenal’s other confirmed targets
Nwaneri could be joined by Cristhian Mosquera after the Spain Under-21 international flew to London on Tuesday to complete his medical. A fee of up to £16.5m has been agreed, and Arsenal are also poised to announce the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea for up to £52m.
Negotiations with Sporting over bonuses in the Viktor Gyökeres deal are close to being finalized, with the transfer potentially costing around £68 million, as the Sweden striker has agreed to personal terms. Brentford failed to trigger Omari Hutchinson’s £35 million release clause from Ipswich, who were relegated.
However, this is not expected to stop their pursuit of the forward.
Hutchinson would have been free to depart Portman Road if the terms of his clause had been met by 5pm on Tuesday. A series of late approaches from Brentford is understood to have been firmed up with an offer shortly before the deadline, but that failed to meet the requirements.
Other Transfer News
Ipswich demanded full cash payment upfront, as opposed to the bid being made in installments. The expiry of the release clause gives Ipswich more control over the 21-year-old’s future, but their stance could be challenged if Brentford return with a more appealing payment plan.
As Brentford undergoes a summer squad overhaul under Keith Andrews, signing Hutchinson, who excelled for England in their UEFA Under-21 Championship victory, would help offset the likely departure of Bryan Mbeumo.
