Everton Sacks Sean Dyche After Poor Run In Premier League

Everton have sacked manager Sean Dyche just hours before the Toffees’ FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough this evening.

The Toffees have managed to secure only one victory in their last 11 Premier League matches, currently placing them 16th in the standings and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

“Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect,” said a club statement. “Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club.”

Jose Mourinho has been strongly associated with the position following the takeover by the Friedkin Group last month, who previously appointed him at another one of their clubs, Roma. Additionally, rumors are suggesting that David Moyes might make a return.

In the short term, former player Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman will take over.

“The process to appoint a new manager is underway, and an update will be provided in due course,” the statement continued.

“Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”

Dyche joined Everton in January 2023, but nearly two years later, he has been dismissed as the club has struggled to make progress under his leadership.

The remit when arriving at the club was to stay in the Premier League which was achieved with a final-day victory over Bournemouth in the 2022/23 campaign.

The following season, Everton encountered financial difficulties and received a 10-point deduction (which was later reduced to six) for failing to adhere to the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Despite this setback, they managed to finish in 15th place.
