Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen has been named the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season by the German League on Monday. The midfielder played a key role in helping his club secure their first league title.

Bayer Leverkusen has achieved a historic feat by becoming the first team to go undefeated in a Bundesliga season. They remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, extending their streak to 51 matches. Wirtz has played a significant role in this success, scoring 18 goals in 47 games.

In April, Wirtz made a remarkable impact by scoring a hat-trick after coming off the bench in the 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen. This win secured the Bundesliga title for Leverkusen with five games remaining. The team still has the Europa League and German Cup finals ahead.

The 21-year-old’s outstanding displays earned him three Player of the Month accolades this season. Additionally, he has been included in Germany’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024. In a friendly match against France in March, he scored the sole goal in Germany’s 1-0 victory. The Player of the Month award is determined through a combination of fan votes (40%), club input (30%), and expert opinions (30%).
