Serie A Roundup: Title Race Tightens As Inter Slip And Milan Close Gap

on

‎The latest Serie A round delivered drama across Italy, from Milan’s comeback surge to Juventus dropping crucial points and Como producing their most dominant top-flight win in more than 70 years.

With the title race tightening and the Champions League chase intensifying, the weekend produced storylines that could define the final stretch of the season.

‎Milan Fight Back to Beat Torino and Cut Inter’s Lead

‎AC Milan reignited their Scudetto ambitions with a hard-earned 3–2 victory over Torino, a result that trims league-leaders Inter’s advantage to five points.

‎Torino controlled much of the first half and looked the sharper of the two sides early on. Despite the pressure, Milan struck first in the 37th minute when defender Strahinja Pavlović produced a sensational half-volley from outside the box.

‎His looping strike dropped perfectly under the bar, leaving goalkeeper Alberto Paleari with no chance.

‎Torino responded just before halftime through Giovanni Simeone, whose finish injected tension into the San Siro and even prompted jeers from sections of the home crowd.

‎Whatever Massimiliano Allegri delivered at halftime transformed Milan’s approach. The Rossoneri came out with renewed intensity, and Adrien Rabiot restored the lead in the 54th minute by bundling in a Christian Pulisic delivery.

‎Just two minutes later, Youssouf Fofana extended the advantage, capping Milan’s explosive start to the second half.

‎Torino pulled one back from the penalty spot via Nikola Vlašić after Pavlović was ruled to have brought down Simeone, but Milan held firm in a tense finish to secure a vital three points.

‎Juventus Falter Again in Draw with Illness-Hit Sassuolo

‎Juventus missed a golden opportunity to move into fourth place after being held to a frustrating 1–1 draw against a Sassuolo side weakened by an outbreak of whooping cough.

‎Kenan Yıldız opened the scoring with a powerful finish in the 14th minute, seemingly setting up a routine home win. But Sassuolo defied their depleted squad and equalised shortly after the break as Andrea Pinamonti swept in Domenico Berardi’s low cross.

‎Juve had a chance to snatch all three points, but Manuel Locatelli’s weak late penalty was easily saved, leaving the Bianconeri stuck level on points with Como and under renewed pressure in the Champions League race.

‎Como Dominate Pisa to Strengthen Their Top-Four Grip

‎Cesc Fàbregas’s Como delivered a stunning 5–0 victory over relegation-threatened Pisa, cementing their place in the top four and opening a three-point gap over Juventus.

‎Assane Diao, Anastasios Douvikas, Martin Baturina, Nico Paz, and Maximo Perrone all found the net in a performance showcasing the club’s attacking depth.

‎Douvikas’ goal marked his 11th of the league campaign, making him the first Como player to hit double figures in Serie A since the 1951–52 season.

‎The emotional win came only three days after the passing of club co-owner Michael Bambang Hartono at age 86. Hartono and his brother Roberto Budi Hartono had overseen the club’s dramatic rise since taking over in 2019, guiding Como from the fourth tier back to Serie A in 2024 after more than 20 years away.

‎Kenneth Taylor Inspires Lazio Past Bologna

‎Lazio climbed to eighth place after a 2–0 away win at Bologna, powered by two second-half goals from January signing Kenneth Taylor.

‎The Dutch midfielder, purchased from Ajax for €17 million, delivered a standout performance to secure Lazio’s third straight victory.

‎The turning point arrived in the 51st minute when young goalkeeper Edoardo Motta saved Riccardo Orsolini’s penalty, keeping the match scoreless before Taylor took control.

‎Taylor’s brace not only lifted Lazio above Bologna but also strengthened Maurizio Sarri’s push for European qualification.

‎Atalanta Bounce Back from UCL Exit

‎Atalanta responded to their Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Hellas Verona.

‎Davide Zappacosta scored the decisive goal in the first half, while the club celebrated a milestone for midfielder Marten de Roon, who made his record-breaking 436th appearance for Atalanta across all competitions.

‎Roma Return to Winning Ways Against Lecce

‎Roma ended a five-match winless run with a much-needed 1–0 victory over Lecce at the Stadio Olimpico. January signing Robinho Vaz delivered his first Serie A goal shortly after coming off the bench, heading in the winner early in the second half.

‎The result moves Roma level with Juventus on points and stabilises their European ambitions after a turbulent stretch that included elimination in the Europa League.

Inter Milan Drops More Points

‎Inter were held to a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina, as the hosts’ Cher Ndour scored a second-half equaliser to cancel out Francesco Pio Esposito’s first-minute opener and dent the visitors’ Serie A title charge.

‎Following Milan’s 3-2 victory over Torino on Saturday, the result in Florence trimmed Inter’s lead at the summit to six points, leaving the leaders on 69 with eight matches remaining and offering fresh hope to their city rivals.
