‎Former England manager Gareth Southgate has expressed interest in the Poland head coach role ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

‎According to Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy Onet, Southgate has contacted the Polish Football Association following the resignation of Michal Probierz. Probierz stepped down on Thursday after a public disagreement with star striker Robert Lewandowski.

‎Lewandowski stated he would refuse to play for Poland as long as Probierz was in charge.

‎The 54-year-old has not pursued any coaching positions since leaving the England national team after EURO 2024, where they were defeated by Spain in the final.

‎During his tenure, he was among the top-paid national coaches globally, earning approximately £5 million annually with the English FA.

‎His salary would be much lower with Poland as former Portugal boss Fernando Santos’ wage reportedly topped out at around €2.5m (£2.1m) annually.

‎Everton were also credited with an interest in appointing Southgate before they hired David Moyes, and Manchester United before the Red Devils hired Ruben Amorim.

‎The former Three Lions manager is considered one of England’s most successful coaches, despite not securing a major trophy during his eight-year tenure.

‎His extensive international experience could make him an ideal candidate for the Poland job ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
