Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of Ghana national football team.

Sportxparte reports that the touch decision was made following Ghana’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ghana Football Association officially announced his dismissal on Tuesday evening.

The Black Stars were unable to progress beyond the group stages, managing only two points from their three Group B encounters.

Their chances of qualifying as one of the top four third-placed teams were dashed on Tuesday, as Mauritania unexpectedly defeated Algeria 1-0 in Bouaké.

GFA’s official statement reads: “The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”

Also, Hughton’s backroom staff have all also been sacked by the federation.
