Gyokeres Joins Mbappé And Palmer In Trademarking Goal Celebration
Arsenal forward, Viktor Gyokeres, has officially secured a trademark for his signature goal celebration.
The move places him among several high-profile footballers who have protected their celebrations. According to Expressen, the filing was confirmed through documents obtained from the EU Trademark and Design Protection Authority. The registration ensures exclusive rights to the celebration across the European Union.
According to the documents, the striker’s application was approved in September. The application includes a photo showing Gyökeres performing the goal gesture, which involves crossing his hands in front of his face like a mask.
Kylian Mbappé and Cole Palmer have also trademarked their goal celebrations. Palmer reportedly pursued the trademark to maintain stronger control over how his personal brand is used for commercial purposes.
”It was not about preventing other sports personalities, or children on playgrounds, from doing the same or a similar goal celebration,” said Palmer’s law firm in their explanation of the trademark protection, according to Expressen.
