Ipswich Town secured their long-awaited return to the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over relegated Huddersfield Town at Portman Road.

The win secured Ipswich’s promotion and also confirmed Huddersfield’s relegation to League One after a disappointing season.

The match began with Ipswich needing just a point to secure their promotion, while Huddersfield required a 15-goal turnover and three points if they were to avoid dropping down to the third tier for the first time since 2012. With a 48-point gap between the two teams in the table, Ipswich dominated possession from the start, eager to settle the match early on.

The breakthrough came in the first half when Wes Burns capitalized on a well-executed play by Conor Chapli and George Hirst to put Ipswich ahead. The home crowd erupted as Burns smashed a low shot past Huddersfield’s goalkeeper, Christopher Maxwell. Despite their dominance, Ipswich had to settle for a one-goal lead going into halftime.

The second half saw Ipswich quickly double their lead, with Omari Hutchinson scoring a brilliant goal from 20 yards out after a pass from Samy Morsy. Huddersfield struggled to organize a significant offensive threat, allowing Ipswich to control the game comfortably and secure their promotion to the Premier League.

The victory marked the end of Ipswich’s 22-year wait to return to the top flight, a momentous occasion for the club and its fans. On the other hand, Huddersfield’s relegation was confirmed, sealing a challenging season for the Terriers.
