JayJay Okocha Reacts To Cyberbullying On Alex Iwobi After AFCON Final Woes
Nigeria’s renowned football icon, Augustine Azuka Okocha, popularly known as Jay-Jay Okocha, has come to the defence of Alex Iwobi, the midfielder for the Super Eagles, following a series of criticism of him by Nigerians.
SportXparte reports that Alex Iwobi has unfortunately become a target of cyberbullying from fellow Nigerians dissatisfied with his performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Ivory Coast last Sunday.
Recall that despite taking an early lead, Nigeria suffered a 1-2 defeat against the host team, Ivory Coast.
The Ivorian squad displayed dominance throughout the match, overpowering the Super Eagles’ midfield. Under the weight of severe criticism, Iwobi decided to remove numerous videos and photos from his Instagram page.
However, Jay-Jay Okocha, a highly accomplished central midfielder for the Super Eagles during his own playing career and also Iwobi’s uncle, strongly condemned those who were publicly criticizing the player, who was born in Britain.
Taking to this Instagram page, Okocha stated: “I pray for my country Nigeria and the people that can only hate and see nothing good in others, when effort counts for nothing, treat people the way you want them to treat you, all we have is this life is each other.
“We love you #alexanderiwobi and we keep going no matter what they say, the Lord is good all the time and we trust that his will be done in our lives amen.”
