João Palhinha Joins Tottenham On Loan From Bayern Munich

‎Tottenham have announced the loan signing of João Palhinha from Bayern Munich.

‎The midfielder will spend the season with Spurs, with the club covering his full wages. There is also an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season for approximately £21 million.

‎Palhinha’s arrival provides a quality addition for Spurs head coach Thomas Frank in a problem position, while the cheap nature of the deal frees up funds to be spent elsewhere.

‎Spurs have already demonstrated their willingness to spend heavily this summer, despite missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White in a £60 million deal.

‎The club remains keen to strengthen its attacking options. With captain Heung-min Son’s anticipated departure, a spot on the wings will open up, and Spurs are also looking to sign an attacking midfielder, often referred to as a No. 10.

‎For Palhinha, it is a return to the Premier League after one season away, having been among the best players in the division while with Fulham, but he saw his chances limited at Bayern.

Palhinha joined Bayern Munich last summer for an initial fee of £43.2 million, setting a club record for Fulham.

‎However, the defensive midfielder only made six Bundesliga starts last season, as it became evident he was not part of manager Vincent Kompany’s plans.
