Juventus Completes Signing Of Douglas Luiz From Aston Villa

Juventus has officially completed the signing of Brazil midfielder, Douglas Luiz, from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £42.3 million ($53.5 million).

Sportxparte reports that Luiz has agreed to a five-year contract with the Italian club, making him the latest player to depart Villa Park due to the Premier League club’s financial fair-play cost-cutting measures.

The 26-year-old, who joined Villa from Manchester City in 2019, played a crucial role in their unexpected fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, scoring 22 goals in 204 appearances for the club.

Luiz underwent a medical while on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America before finalizing his move to Juventus.

“I’m really happy to be a Bianconero. I can’t wait to play in the Allianz Stadium. See you soon and Forza Juve!” Luiz said in a social media video.

Aston Villa Confirms Luiz’s Departure

The Premier League club announced Luiz’s departure on their website, saying: “Aston Villa can confirm that Douglas Luiz has joined Juventus.”

Luiz, who played a key role in Brazil’s gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics, was named Villa’s Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season.

However, in order to adhere to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), manager Unai Emery had to agree to Luiz’s transfer.

The PSR guidelines allow for losses of up to £105 million over a three-year period.

Villa has already offloaded Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9 million in the summer transfer window, and Omari Kellyman was sold to Chelsea for £19 million.

There have been rumours linking Tottenham with a move for Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, while Emery has secured the signings of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea and Lewis Dobbin from Everton.

Luiz will be moving to Juventus, who finished third in Serie A last season, trailing champions Inter Milan by 24 points.
