Kevin De Bruyne Explains What Makes Guardiola Different from Conte
Kevin De Bruyne has discussed the key differences between Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte after leaving Manchester City for Napoli.
He highlighted how Guardiola’s style focuses on possession and intricate build-up, while Conte emphasizes intensity and direct play.
This season will be De Bruyne’s first outside the Premier League in a decade, and he has been welcomed enthusiastically by Napoli.
After winning six Premier League titles and helping City clinch their first Champions League trophy, the Belgian international has expressed his goal of securing his 25th career trophy in his first season with Napoli.
The Italian club will also be aiming to defend its Serie A title this season.
De Bruyne is no stranger to being under legendary managers, having played under Jose Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini, Dieter Hecking, and, of course, Conte and Guardiola, under whom he spent eight years.
Speaking with Corriere dello Sport opened up on the difference between Guardiola and Conte, who led Napoli to glory last season.
”I’d say they’re two different ways of playing: Pep is probably a little more focused on ball control and possession, while Conte is a little more structured in his game and focuses a lot on mentality.
“Pep works more on the zonal area. There are a couple of different things, but every coach has their principles and characteristics.”
He was also asked about the grand welcome he received from Italian fans who dubbed him the “king” in what is the club’s biggest arrival so far this summer.
”I’m not the king, I’m just a footballer,” he said.
”I don’t pay much attention to certain things. I try to do my job as best I can, but obviously, it’s nice to be appreciated.
”I hope I can continue to have a great career.”
