Lamine Yamal Makes History With 2025 Kopa Trophy Triumph

‎Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has made history by becoming the first player to retain the Kopa Trophy.

‎He initially won the award in 2024 after starring for Spain during their victorious European Championship campaign. Over the past season, he elevated his game even further, cementing his place among football’s brightest young talents.

‎The creative hub of Hansi Flick’s reinvigorated Barcelona side led the Catalans to a domestic treble, scooping up La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup all at the expense of fierce rivals Real Madrid.

‎Yamal, still a teenager, played a pivotal role in these successes, tallying 18 goals and 25 assists across all competitions. Beyond mere numbers, the 18-year-old ignited genuine fear in his peers.

‎In the lead-up to the 2025 Champions League final, six Inter players were asked to identify their toughest opponent of the season. From goalkeeper to striker, all six are named Yamal.

‎Unlike the Ballon d’Or, which is decided by journalists, the Kopa Trophy is voted on by past Ballon d’Or winners. Kylian Mbappé became the first recipient in 2018 after leading France to World Cup glory.
