Ligue 1 Preview: PSG Face Monaco Test As Marseille Chase European Spots

The race for the title, European qualification, and survival intensifies in Ligue 1 as matchday 25 kicks off with several intriguing fixtures across France.

‎The standout clash sees league leaders Paris Saint-Germain host a resurgent AS Monaco, while Olympique Marseille travel to face Toulouse FC in a rematch just days after their Coupe de France encounter.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Monaco

‎League leaders Paris Saint-Germain will welcome AS Monaco to the Parc des Princes on Friday in what will be the third meeting between the two sides in less than a month.

‎PSG enters the contest with growing momentum after a narrow 1-0 victory over Le Havre AC last weekend. That result allowed Luis Enrique’s side to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points following another stumble from title rivals RC Lens.

‎The reigning champions have been formidable domestically in recent weeks. PSG have won nine of their last 10 Ligue 1 matches and remain unbeaten at home throughout 2026.

‎Their dominance at the Parc des Princes has been especially striking, winning their last three league games there by a combined scoreline of 11-0.

‎Defensively, the Parisians have also improved significantly. They have kept three clean sheets in their last four league matches while maintaining an impressive record in the French capital, where they have not lost a Ligue 1 game since April 2025 against OGC Nice.

‎PSG have also consistently found the net in front of their home fans. Not since a goalless draw with FC Lorient in August 2023 have they failed to score in a league match at home.

‎However, Monaco arrives in Paris with renewed confidence. The Principality club has won three consecutive Ligue 1 matches and recently climbed into seventh place following a convincing 2-0 victory against Angers SCO.

‎Under Sebastien Pocognoli, Monaco has shown impressive resilience. Their dramatic comeback from two goals down to defeat Lens 3-2 last week highlighted their attacking quality and fighting spirit.

‎With only three points separating them from the European qualification places currently occupied by LOSC Lille and Stade Rennais.

‎Monaco knows that another strong result could significantly boost their continental ambitions.

Team News

‎PSG could be without several key players heading into this contest. Young midfielder Senny Mayulu and winger Ousmane Dembele are both struggling with calf problems, while Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz is dealing with a knee injury.

‎Portuguese talent Joao Neves remains doubtful because of an ankle issue, and defender Quentin Ndjantou Mbitcha is also a fitness concern due to a hamstring problem.

‎In attack, PSG will again rely on the form of Bradley Barcola, who scored the decisive goal in the win over Le Havre.

‎Monaco continues to struggle with injuries of their own. Defender Mohammed Salisu, playmaker Takumi Minamino, midfielder Paul Pogba, and goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky are all sidelined with knee problems.

‎Additionally, defender Eric Dier is battling a hamstring injury, while Kassoum Ouattara and Krepin Diatta are also doubtful.

‎However, Monaco will be encouraged by the recent scoring form of striker Folarin Balogun, who has scored in back-to-back Ligue 1 matches.

Prediction

‎PSG’s impressive home record makes them difficult to beat, but Monaco’s recent form suggests they are capable of causing problems for the league leaders.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 1–1 Monaco

Toulouse vs Marseille

‎Just days after their dramatic meeting in the Coupe de France quarter-finals, Toulouse FC and Olympique Marseille meet again, this time in Ligue 1 action.

‎Toulouse will be hoping their recent cup triumph over Marseille can spark a turnaround in league form. Carles Martinez’s side are currently winless in their last five Ligue 1 matches and slipped to 11th place following a 1-0 defeat against Stade Rennais last weekend.

‎Despite their league struggles, Toulouse have been solid defensively at home. They are unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions at the Stadium de Toulouse, conceding only two goals during that period.

‎However, scoring goals has recently become a challenge. After a productive attacking run earlier in the season, Toulouse have scored just once or failed to score entirely in their last five league matches.

‎Marseille arrived in fourth place after a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against Olympique Lyon. That result kept them firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

‎Nevertheless, Marseille has shown vulnerability in recent weeks, conceding the opening goal in three of their last four league matches. Their away form has also been inconsistent, and they have yet to score in their last two away Ligue 1 games under manager Habib Beye.

Team News

‎Toulouse may again be without midfielder Abu Francis, who remains doubtful with a leg injury, while defender Rasmus Nicolaisen is struggling with a thigh issue.

‎Forward Frank Magri is expected to miss the match due to a knee injury, while both Rafik Messali and Alex Dominguez are doubtful because of ankle problems.

‎For Marseille, forward Amine Gouiri is carrying a knock, while midfielder Quinten Timber faces a late fitness test due to a shoulder problem.

‎Danish international Pierre‑Emile Hojbjerg is available again after serving a suspension.

‎Veteran striker Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang was the hero last week, scoring twice late on to secure victory against Lyon.

Prediction

‎Toulouse’s strong home form combined with Marseille’s recent away struggles could tilt the balance slightly in favour of the hosts.

‎Prediction: Toulouse 2–1 Marseille

‎Auxerre vs Strasbourg

‎Relegation-threatened AJ Auxerre host ambitious RC Strasbourg in a match that carries major implications at both ends of the Ligue 1 table.

‎Auxerre have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit in the relegation play-off position. Christophe Pelissier’s side has managed only two victories in their last 20 league matches, though recent results have offered a glimmer of hope.

‎A 2-2 draw away to FC Lorient last weekend extended their unbeaten run away from home to three matches and kept them within touching distance of safety.

‎Goals have been a major issue for Auxerre this season. They remain the lowest-scoring team in Ligue 1 with just 19 goals. However, their attack has recently shown improvement, scoring five times in their last three matches.

‎Strasbourg, meanwhile, continues its push for European football next season. Gary O’Neil’s side are five points away from the Europa League qualification places with 10 matches remaining.

‎The visitors come into this match following a Coupe de France quarter-final victory over Stade de Reims, marking their 20th win in all competitions this season.

‎Team News

‎Auxerre will be without defender Nathan Buayi‑Kiala due to a cruciate ligament injury.

‎Midfielder Lasso Coulibaly is also dealing with a knock, while Romain Faivre remains sidelined with an ankle problem.

‎For Strasbourg, striker Emanuel Emegha continues to recover from a muscle injury.

‎Defenders Ben Chilwell and Valentin Barco are among several players who must avoid another yellow card to prevent suspension.

Prediction

‎Auxerre’s desperation for points combined with Strasbourg’s inconsistent league form suggests a tightly contested encounter.

‎Prediction: Auxerre 1–1 Strasbourg

‎Lyon vs Paris FC

‎Olympique Lyon welcome Paris FC to Groupama Stadium for the first league meeting between the two clubs in over four decades.

‎Lyon have been one of Ligue 1’s most consistent teams this season but suffered a setback last weekend after losing 3-2 to Marseille.

‎Despite that defeat, Paulo Fonseca’s side remains third in the table and firmly in the race for Champions League qualification. A victory on Sunday would help restore their momentum, especially considering their outstanding home record, having won five consecutive domestic matches at Groupama Stadium.

‎Paris FC, meanwhile, enjoyed a perfect start under new manager Antoine Kombouare with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nice.

‎The Parisian club currently sits 14th in the table but remains comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

‎Team News

‎Lyon could be without several players including Afonso Moreira and Pavel Sulc due to hamstring problems.

‎Winger Ernest Nuamah is ruled out with a cruciate ligament injury, while defender Clinton Mata will serve a suspension.

‎Paris FC are likely to be without striker Pierre‑Yves Hamel due to a calf injury.

Prediction

‎Paris FC have shown resilience away from home, and Lyon’s recent defensive struggles could allow the visitors to earn a valuable point.

Prediction: Lyon 1–1 Paris FC

Lille vs Lorient

‎Lille OSC will aim to maintain their push for European football when they host FC Lorient on Sunday.

‎Lille appears to have rediscovered its form after a difficult start to 2026. Bruno Genesio’s side has won three consecutive matches in all competitions without conceding a goal.

‎Their latest success came in a narrow 1-0 victory against FC Nantes, a result that kept them firmly in fifth place.

‎Lille remain just three points behind Marseille for a Champions League qualifying spot and five behind Lyon for an automatic group-stage place.

‎Lorient, meanwhile, has proven difficult to beat in recent weeks. Olivier Pantaloni’s side has lost only once in their last 13 league matches, though they have drawn several games after conceding the opening goal.

Team News

‎Lille will likely be without goalkeeper Marc‑Aurele Caillard due to an elbow injury.

‎Defender Alexsandro Ribeiro is also doubtful with a calf problem, while young midfielder Ethan Mbappe continues to recover from a thigh injury.

‎For Lorient, defender Isaak Toure remains a fitness doubt, and midfielder Bandiougou Fadiga is dealing with a groin issue.

‎Striker Bamba Dieng scored twice in last weekend’s draw with Auxerre and will again lead the attack.

Prediction

‎Given Lille’s strong defensive form and impressive home record against Lorient, the hosts appear well-positioned to secure another victory.

Prediction: Lille 2–1 Lorient
