Liverpool Confirms Federico Chiesa Signing From Juventus

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Italy international Federico Chiesa.

The Juventus forward emerged as a surprise target for the Reds earlier this week and has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Anfield to bolster an already fearsome frontline on Merseyside. He will wear the No14 shirt.

Juventus had made it clear that they intended to sell the former Fiorentina forward after unsuccessful negotiations for a new contract, and Arne Slot’s team has taken advantage of the situation.

Chiesa is believed to have cost Liverpool around £10m up front, with a further £2.5m to come by way of various add-ons.

He told the club’s website, “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ and the coach called me, I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.

“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

Barca were said to be confident of beating Liverpool to Chiesa, who scored nine goals in the Italian top flight last season, but the ‘bureaucratic obstacles’ they were concerned about pushed them out of the running.

Juventus’ departure and arrival

Juve has drastically overhauled their squad this summer, with former first-team regulars Adrien Rabiot, Moise Kean, and Alex Sandro all leaving permanently.

In terms of incoming arrivals, Douglas Luiz, Michele Di Gregorio, Khephren Thuram, Juan Cabal, Pierre Kalulu, Nicolas Gonzalez, Francisco Conceicao, and Teun Koopmeiners have all touched down at the Allianz Stadium

The 26-year-old was part of the Italy team that secured victory in the postponed Euro 2020 tournament against England at Wembley and is the first new to join Liverpool this summer.

Georgia international goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, became the first new signing of the post-Jurgen Klopp era but will remain at Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.
