Liverpool Increasingly Confident About Mohamed Salah Contract Extension
Liverpool are increasingly confident that Mohamed Salah will agree to a contract extension and remain with the team beyond the summer, following positive developments in negotiations over the past few weeks.
It is a significant boost to Liverpool, whose captain, Virgil van Dijk, is also likely to prolong his stay beyond June. The Dutchman said this week that progress had been made with regards to securing his future.
The two players have played a crucial role for Liverpool this season as the club approaches a record-equalling 20th top-flight title.
Under Arne Slot, they have been consistent performers in the Premier League, with Salah netting 27 goals in 31 appearances and Van Dijk contributing to a defense that has conceded only 30 goals.
This has positioned Liverpool at the top of the table, 11 points ahead of Arsenal with seven matches remaining.
Slot has made it clear that he wants Salah and Van Dijk to be key parts of his plans. Salah will turn 33 in June, and the Netherlands center-back will be 34 in July.
Despite their advancing ages, both players have not missed a game due to injury under his management.
In November, Salah expressed that he was “probably more out than in” at Liverpool, mentioning that he had not yet received a new contract offer.
However, he emphasized that his priority was to stay at the club, where he currently earns a basic wage of £350,000 per week.
While discussions with Salah’s representatives had begun before November, no formal contract proposal had been presented for the Egyptian’s consideration.
Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017, has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League but is set to ignore all external attention.
He, like Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has been free to negotiate with foreign clubs since the turn of the year.
Of the trio, only Alexander-Arnold is set to depart, with a move to Real Madrid poised to be completed.
