Frank Lampard has been appointed as the new Coventry head coach.

The 46-year-old has signed a two-year contract to take charge of a team currently positioned 17th in the Championship, only two points clear of the relegation zone.

Lampard has been out of management since his spell as interim Chelsea boss at the end of the 2022-23 season.

He takes over from Mark Robins, who was dismissed this month after a seven-year tenure. During his time in charge, Robins guided Coventry from League Two to a Championship Play-Off Final and an FA Cup semi-final.

Lampard will be joined at Coventry by former Chelsea coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.

His first match in charge of Coventry will be against Cardiff on Saturday.

Coventry owner Doug King said, “I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach.

“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.

“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad a clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”
