Manchester United Agrees Deal To Sell Scott McTominay To Napoli
Manchester United have agreed a £25m deal in principle to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli, with the transfer subject to the midfielder’s agreement.
If McTominay agrees to the move, the fee paid by the Serie A club will include add-ons.
It would strengthen United’s bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, the No. 6 Erik ten Hag hopes will add quality and bolster his options in the position. Casemiro is the only senior holding player in the first-team squad.
While United is not dependent on a sale to recruit Ugarte, a Uruguay international, the hierarchy’s preference is to bring in extra funds before doing so.
Napoli is also in discussions with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding McTominay’s Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour.
Both McTominay and Gilmour featured in the Premier League match on Saturday where Brighton secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over United.
If McTominay decides to leave Manchester United, it will be the end of a 22-year journey with the club. He rose through their ranks and has since made 255 appearances for United, scoring 29 times.
His debut under José Mourinho was in May 2017, when he came as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
McTominay might not be the only current United player on his way to Italy, with Juventus interested in signing winger Jadon Sancho, who has been left out of the matchday squad for the Red Devils’ first two Premier League games of the season.
The 27-year-old has won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and is the current Scottish Football Writers’ Association men’s international player of the year.
