Marco Silva Emerges As Nottingham Forest’s Top Candidate After Postecoglou Exit
Evangelos Marinakis has identified Fulham manager, Marco Silva as his top target to replace Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest.
The Forest owner dismissed Postecoglou immediately after Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, which stretched the team’s winless streak to eight matches.
Marinakis had already begun exploring potential successors before making the decision. Among those also considered for the role are Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini.
Marinakis has returned his interest to Silva, whose buyout clause has been reported to be as high as €15m (£13m). Forest recognises it would cost to extract Silva from his contract at Craven Cottage, which expires at the end of the season.
Forest is navigating financial constraints, having dismissed two managers this season and invested roughly £200m in new players this summer.
However, Marinakis remains an admirer of Silva, having previously appointed him at Olympiakos, where the Portuguese manager claimed the Greek Super League title in 2015-16.
Crucially, Silva is reportedly interested in the Forest role, with the club among the early favourites for Europa League glory.
The 48-year-old has been in charge of Fulham since 2021 and has also managed in England at Everton, Watford, and Hull.
Silva was linked with a Saudi Arabian move in the summer of 2023, only to sign a three-year deal keeping him at Craven Cottage until 2026.
Fulham endured a turbulent summer as their transfer business moved slowly, securing only one permanent outfield signing in Brazilian forward Kevin.
They also added Samuel Chukwueze on loan from Milan and teenage striker Jonah Kusi-Asare from Bayern Munich, who has yet to debut for the first team.
Silva would be joining his fifth Premier League club, should he depart Fulham, where he has established the London club in the top division; this is their fourth in succession after promotion was secured from the Championship in 2021-22.
The Fulham owner, Shahid Khan, said this week in an interview with Talksport, “He’s been great. I really like him, not only as a person, but also as a football manager and head coach. Definitely, I think he’s in our long-term plans.”
After the exits of fan favourite Nuno Espírito Santo and the brief tenure of Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest are again searching for a new head coach.
Among the leading contenders are former Forest trainee Sean Dyche and ex-Manchester City and Italy boss Roberto Mancini.
