Marcus Rashford Announces Break From Social Media After Difficult Season
Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, is planning to take some time to reset mentally after acknowledging he has endured a “challenging season”.
The England forward was omitted from Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 training squad. This decision came after he managed to score only eight goals across all competitions while playing for a struggling Manchester United team that finished in eighth place in the Premier League.
Following his crucial role in helping his club finish the season on a positive note with a victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, the 26-year-old forward will now focus on making the most of his upcoming summer break.
Having announced his intention to take a break from his social media platforms for a few weeks, Rashford, who had previously spoken out against online abuse by declaring “enough is enough,” has once again addressed his critics in a frustrated manner.
He wrote on X: “It’s time to come off socials for a few weeks. I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period. To the ones that didn’t, just remember at United, we always stick together.”
Despite being limited to just 15 appearances for Manchester United this season due to injuries, Luke Shaw did secure a place in Southgate’s provisional squad. His last game for the club was back in February.
The full-back has responded to criticism regarding his availability for the national team but has not yet addressed concerns about his availability for his club.
Shaw posted on Instagram: “I don’t normally react to things I see on social media, but there’s a lot of people questioning my loyalty to this club and asking how I am fit for England but not United. The reality is I am not 100 percent fit for either right now, but I am doing everything I can and constantly working to be.”
“I have been at this club for 10 years through highs and lows and for anyone to question my loyalty is frustrating.”
