Mbappe Joins List Of Club Owners, Buys Majority Stake At Ligue 2 Club
Kylian Mbappe is set to become the majority shareholder of a professional football club at the age of 25, having reached an agreement with Caen.
Reports from Le Parisien indicate that Mbappe will acquire the majority of Caen’s shares for nearly €20 million.
The remaining shares, valued at €5 million, will be held by Pierre-Antin Capton.
Having become the highest-paid player at Real Madrid with an annual net salary of €15 million, Mbappe’s earnings were reduced from his previous contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
However, a signing bonus exceeding €100 million throughout his contract is expected to compensate for this decrease. Forbes estimated the value of his endorsement deals at $20 million in early 2024, further solidifying his financial status.
As a young player, Mbappe was close to joining Caen due to the club recognizing his potential as a future star and his family viewing it as a nurturing environment.
Unfortunately, the deal did not materialize following Caen’s relegation from Ligue 1.
In the near future, Mbappe is looking forward to making his debut for Real Madrid, anticipated to be in the upcoming UEFA Super Cup.
Subsequently, he aims to leave a mark at Caen, a team known for fluctuating between divisions and currently competing in France’s second tier since 2019.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility that he may eventually play for his own club, similar to Didier Drogba’s involvement with USL side Phoenix Rising in 2017.
