Megan Rapinoe Eyes Spectacular Farewell As OL Reign Faces Gotham FC in NWSL Final On Saturday
In anticipation of her last professional match with OL Reign, American professional football player, Megan Rapinoe, expressed that securing victory in the NWSL final on Saturday would mark a fulfilling “life moment.”
Rapinoe is a legendary figure in the USWNT, Sportsxparte reports. She and teammates Lu Barnes and Jess Fishlock have dedicated their entire NWSL career to the Reign. The team’s head coach, Laura Harvey, who initially managed the club for eight seasons, including its earlier iteration as the Seattle Reign, has played a pivotal role in Rapinoe’s career and reunited with her in a full-circle moment.
For Rapinoe, winning the league’s top honour alongside Barnes, Fishlock, and Harvey would hold immense significance. She emphasized, “That would be a full circle moment. Something that we would obviously never forget, with all that we’ve shared how close we are, and everything we’ve been through. I want it more than anything.” Reflecting on their unique relationship, Rapinoe highlighted the rarity of players, especially as many as they are, staying with the same club for such an extended period.
Veronica Latsko, a forward for the Reign, acknowledged Rapinoe’s substantial impact on the team, stating, “She is the team” and adding that “When we’re doing it for the team, we’re doing it for Pinoe. She gives 110%, that’s the beauty of this team, everybody matches it. That’s what she brings out here.”
The NWSL Championship, where Rapinoe and OL Reign will face Gotham FC, is set to take place at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, on Saturday.
