Mohamed Salah Receives First Contract Offer from Liverpool
Liverpool have reportedly made a contract offer to Mohamed Salah, which is expected to spark further talks.
The Egyptian superstar has been open about inquiries regarding his future, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Speaking just last month, Salah told journalists journalists, “We are almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay with the club.
“I’m probably more out than in,” added the forward, who had just scored a brace in Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton.
“You know I have been with the club for many years. There is no club like this.
“I love the fans, the fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
Now, as reported by The Athletic on Sunday, Salah has received an ‘opening’ contract offer from Liverpool.
However, this development does not mean an agreement is close and any outcome is expected to take time.
Over the weekend, British media circulated rumors suggesting that Salah was on the verge of signing a new two-year contract.
It is anticipated that the 32-year-old will have to accept reduced terms to remain at Anfield beyond next summer.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have a track record of offering dramatically reduced deals to players over 30.
No details have been provided about the salary or duration of Liverpool’s offer, and the report emphasized that this development does not necessarily indicate that a resolution to the lengthy saga is imminent or forthcoming.
Interestingly, news of these talks between the player and club came on the same day that another report claimed Salah was “on the brink” of signing a new deal.
Centre-back Virgil van Dijk and boyhood Liverpool fan Trent Alexander-ArnoldCentre-back Virgil van Dijk and boyhood Liverpool fan Trent Alexander-Arnold are currently engaged in contract discussions with the club, with both players having received proposals for contract extensions.
While the proposed deal for Van Dijk fell short of the Dutchman’s expectations, Liverpool will have to compete with Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold’s signature as the Spanish giants circle.
