Morgan Gibbs-White Snubs Tottenham To Sign New Contract With Nottingham Forest
Morgan Gibbs-White said he is “excited for what’s to come” after extending his contract at Nottingham Forest until 2028.
The 25-year-old was expected to complete a £60m move to Spurs earlier this month after the club reportedly activated his release clause.
Nottingham Forest responded strongly to the news, threatening legal action over an alleged illegal approach for the player.
The club also indicated they were preparing to lodge a complaint with the Premier League, claiming Spurs’ conduct had been inappropriate. Forest officials consulted lawyers, asserting that Spurs did not have permission to speak with Gibbs-White.
They also argued that there had been a breach of confidentiality regarding the release clause in the player’s contract.
Gibbs-White has been a key player for Forest and has scored 18 goals and made 28 assists in 118 games, helping the club finish seventh last season and qualify for the Europa League.
He told the club’s website, “I’ve felt at home at Forest since I arrived. The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable.
”I believe in what we’re building here, and with the backing of Mr Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis added, “Morgan is a special player not just in terms of talent, but character and mentality. He represents everything we want this football club to be: he is a winner, talented, ambitious, fearless, and proud.
”There was significant interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it. I promised our fans we would not only compete, but grow stronger and stronger every season.
”Today is another big step in that journey.”
