Newcastle Close To Signing Anthony Elanga As Man Utd Set To Profit From Forest Sale
Newcastle United hopes to complete a deal to sign Nottingham Forest forward Anthony Elanga after submitting an improved offer of around £55 million.
Last week, their initial bid of £45 million was turned down, but they have now responded with a higher offer.
Newcastle United and manager Eddie Howe have long admired Elanga, who appeared in every Premier League game for Forest last season, netting six goals and providing 11 assists.
Under Nuno Espírito Santo, marking their first return to European competition since 1995-96.
Meanwhile, Newcastle secured a place in the Champions League after finishing fifth in the league standings.
Newcastle are yet to finalise a deal for the 23-year-old but have been given encouragement that they are nearing an agreement.
Manchester United gain in the deal
Manchester United will not be competing in the Champions League this season, but they stand to benefit financially from any Elanga transfer.
When United sold the 23-year-old to Forest in 2023 for £15 million, they included a sell-on clause reportedly entitling them to 15 percent of any profit.
This means United would receive 15 percent of the £25 million profit approximately £3.75 million.
However, based on the reported £40 million transfer fee, the £6 million figure could be a potential earning if the sale price reaches that amount.
While that amount won’t be enough to acquire a player who could transform their fortunes, it is certainly beneficial as they aim to improve their PSR (Profit Share Ratio) calculations.
Elanga has scored 11 goals in 83 appearances for Forest and is under contract there until 2028.
