NFF Fully Behind Super Eagles’ Coach, Finidi George – Says Ikpeba
Victor Ikpeba, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, has expressed his unwavering support for Finidi George, the embattled head coach of the Super Eagles.
Sportxparte reports that Finidi George has been facing a challenging start to his tenure as Super Eagles coach.
The Nigerian national team has delivered lacklustre performances in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic under George’s leadership.
The Super Eagles managed a 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana and suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Cheetahs in their away fixture.
As a result, the Nigerian team currently find themselves in fifth place in Group C, having accumulated only three points from four matches.
Consequently, there has been an increasing clamour for Finidi George’s dismissal.
Reacting, however, the the call for the Super Eagles coach dismissal, Ikpeba said: “Nigerians asked for a local coach and Finidi was found to be the best man to lead the Super Eagles at this time.”
“The technical committee chose the best in the interest of the country.
“Finidi will therefore continue to enjoy the full support of the NFF despite the recent results posted by the Super Eagles,” Ikpeba was quoted by SCORENigeria.
Recall that Finidi George as appointed as Super Eagles new manager in April.
George succeeded Jose Peseiro. This move comes after George’s interim period following Peseiro’s departure after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final defeat against Ivory Coast.
