Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan Sets New African 60m Hurdles Indoor Record

Nigerian track and field athlete, Oluwatobiloba Ayomide better known as Tobi Amusan (OON), has achieved a new African women’s indoor record in the 60 meters event by completing it in 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Gand Prix held in Boston.

SportXparte understands that the 26-year-old Nigerian specialises in the 100-metre hurdles and also competes as a sprinter.

Tobi Amusan’s latest outstanding performance surpasses her previous record of 7.77 seconds, which she had set in Kazakhstan during the Astana Indoor Meet in January.

Despite setting a new African record, Amusan secured the second position in Boston, as she was narrowly beaten by America’s Tia Jones, who finished the race in 7.72 seconds.

Following closely behind Amusan, Bahama’s Devynne Chalton claimed the third position with a time of 7.76 seconds.

In her inaugural race of the new athletic season on January 27, Amusan surpassed the African record previously held by her fellow countrywoman, Gloria Alozie.
