Nottingham Forest Stuns Liverpool Again At Anfield
Nottingham Forest produced one of the most astonishing results of the Premier League season as they stunned Liverpool 3–0 at Anfield, securing back-to-back league wins on Merseyside and giving their survival hopes a major lift.
Liverpool Start Brightly But Waste Early Chances
Liverpool have been criticised at times this season for their slow, predictable approach, but that wasn’t the case in the early exchanges. The champions came flying out of the blocks and nearly took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes.
A flowing team move sliced through Forest’s defensive structure, ending with Cody Gakpo slipping a clever pass into Alexis Mac Allister just yards from goal. As Anfield prepared to celebrate, Elliot Anderson threw himself into a heroic last-ditch block to somehow keep the score at 0–0.
It was an intervention that set the tone for Forest’s fearless, committed display.
Liverpool continued to probe, and Mohamed Salah produced a vintage solo run gliding past three Forest defenders before teeing up Milos Kerkez, who volleyed over. The chances were there; the finishing wasn’t.
Forest Strike Against the Run of Play
Despite Liverpool’s dominance, it was Forest who delivered the first blow. A chaotic defensive sequence from the hosts following a corner left them scrambling, and Murillo showed admirable composure in the crowded box to fire into the bottom corner.
Moments later, Igor Jesus thought he had doubled Forest’s lead with an instinctive volley inside the area, only for VAR and the referee to chalk it off for handball.
The warning signs, however, were unmistakable: Forest came to Anfield with belief, aggression, and a plan.
Visitors Seize Control as Liverpool Falter
The second half was expected to bring relentless Liverpool pressure, but instead, Forest shocked the stadium once again.
Former Liverpool full-back Nico Williams orchestrated the move down the right, cutting the ball back perfectly for Nicolò Savona, who powered a high, unstoppable finish into the roof of the net.
Suddenly, the champions were two goals down at home and deservedly so.
Arne Slot turned to his bench, introducing Hugo Ekitike and sacrificing defensive structure in search of a comeback. But instead of sparking energy, the changes only increased Liverpool’s chaos and disorganisation.
The team looked stretched, disconnected, and strangely flat.
Gibbs-White Delivers the Knockout Punch
The third goal came 12 minutes from time after Omari Hutchinson unleashed a stinging effort that Alisson could only parry into the path of Morgan Gibbs-White.
The midfielder reacted quickest, guiding a low left-footed finish into the corner as stunned silence washed over Anfield.
Fans began to head for the exits an unfamiliar sight during Slot’s tenure. By the final whistle, the 3–0 scoreline marked the heaviest home league defeat of the Dutch manager’s Liverpool reign.
