‎West Ham United have moved swiftly to appoint Nuno Espírito Santo as their new manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter after a disastrous start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

The former Nottingham Forest manager has agreed terms with the Hammers and could be in the dugout as early as Monday for their crucial clash against Everton.

Potter’s Short-Lived Tenure Comes to an End

Graham Potter’s stint at West Ham has lasted just nine months, ending with the club sitting second from bottom in the Premier League.

‎Pressure had been mounting on the Englishman since the opening day defeat to newly promoted Sunderland, followed by a humiliating 5-1 home thrashing at the hands of Chelsea. A 2-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace last weekend proved to be the final straw.

‎What makes the timing all the more striking is that Potter was sacked just hours after fronting a pre-match press conference ahead of the Everton fixture a clear sign that West Ham’s ownership had lost all confidence in his leadership.

Sullivan’s Decision and the Search for a Successor

‎Club owner David Sullivan had been weighing up Potter’s future while on holiday in Spain, and eventually made the call to part ways with the manager after what he viewed as a nightmare beginning to the season.

‎The Hammers’ hierarchy also confirmed the departure of head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay, who had followed Potter from Brighton.

‎In their search for a replacement, West Ham checks out several candidates. Talks were reportedly held with former manager Slaven Bilić, while Wolves’ head coach Vítor Pereira was also considered before he committed to a new contract at Molineux.

‎Ultimately, Sullivan and his board turned to Nuno Espírito Santo, believing his Premier League experience and pragmatic style could steady the ship.

Nuno’s Return to London Football

‎For Nuno, this represents a swift return to top-flight management after his time at Nottingham Forest.

‎Known for his structured defensive systems and ability to maximise squad potential, the Portuguese coach arrives at the London Stadium with an urgent task: to stabilise results and lift West Ham out of the relegation zone.
