Parish Opens Talks On Glasner’s Future, Wharton’s Ambition, And Palace’s Stadium Redevelopment
Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish, has confirmed that the club has reopened contract talks with manager Oliver Glasner.
Parish acknowledged that the club must match the Austrian’s ambitions to convince him to remain in south London beyond this season. The Palace had initially begun discussions with Glasner’s representatives earlier in the year.
However, those talks were paused as the manager led the team to a historic FA Cup triumph over Manchester City at Wembley in May.
The former Eintracht Frankfurt manager has recently been linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich. He also stated at the start of October that talks with Palace had not yet resumed.
But in an interview with TalkSport on Sunday, Parish said he has held “some early conversations” with the 51-year-old.
“We would love to keep Oliver, we’re building something. I think for Oliver it’s about the conditions being right,” said Parish.
“It’s about everything being in a way that he enjoys his work and he finds the conditions favourable to achieve. Oliver wants to win things.
”He makes no secret of that. That’s what he’s in football for. So if we can align those interests then hopefully we can make something happen.”
Parish On Adam Wharton Future
Parish admitted that Adam Wharton, who has been linked with Manchester United and several top European clubs including Real Madrid, aspires to play at the highest level.
The Crystal Palace chairman acknowledged that fulfilling those ambitions could be key to the midfielder’s future.
“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club,” he said.
“He’s an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can’t speak for Adam, but I think he’s focused on his time at Crystal Palace.”
Parish on Crystal Palace Stand redevelopment
Meanwhile, work on redeveloping Palace’s new main stand
The estimated cost of up to £250m was due to start in the summer but is now expected to begin in January.
“It’s an absolute must, and everybody now on the shareholder group is committed to doing it, so hopefully in January, there’s lots of things going on,” said Parish.
“Things are being moved, power stations, dressing rooms are being built. There are a lot of things that maybe the fans can’t see, so it has been going forward, but the real physical things, things being demolished, etc, will start in January.”
