Premier League Giants Eyes Dani Olmo Amid Barcelona’s Registration Issues
Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the situation surrounding Dani Olmo.
His registration with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of this month.
Olmo’s temporary registration, which was initially granted as an emergency measure due to Andreas Christensen’s injury, is set to expire on December 31.
However, Barcelona is currently unable to renew it.
Barcelona took La Liga to court in a bid to extend Olmo’s registration but were unsuccessful, with a judge ruling that the league’s financial regulations were fair and must be followed.
“The aim of authorizing the overspend is so that a long-term injury does not undermine the team’s competition, not so that the long-term injury allows the registration of players who exceed the limit with their salary, which Barcelona tried to do,” the court ruled.
Adding to the complexity of the situation is the suggestion that Olmo’s contract with Barcelona contains a clause permitting him to leave on a free transfer if the La Liga club does not register him in their squad.
According to The Times, interest in Olmo’s future is growing, with Arsenal, City, and United all keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.
Barcelona officials have consistently emphasized their commitment to re-registering Olmo.
According to MARCA, the Spain international remains optimistic that his future will be settled without complications.
Privately, Barcelona has pledged to do whatever it takes to keep Olmo.
They will first appeal the court ruling on Monday but are exploring ways to raise money through new sponsorship deals or investment from directors, which would give them enough financial freedom to register Olmo.
As it stands, Olmo will not be able to play for Barcelona when they resume action in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro on January 4.
