Real Madrid Captain Dani Carvajal Ruled Out With Calf Injury
Real Madrid have confirmed that captain Dani Carvajal has sustained a calf injury.
Spanish media reports suggest the defender could be sidelined for at least four weeks.
Carvajal, who has featured in seven of the club’s eight matches this season, was forced off after an hour in Saturday’s 5-2 derby defeat to Atlético Madrid.
The 33-year-old had returned to action in July for the Club World Cup semi-finals after nine months out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
”After the tests carried out today on our player Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the soleus muscle of his right leg,” Real said in a statement.
Real Madrid have not specified the length of Dani Carvajal’s absence, though Marca reports he will be out for about a month, ruling him out of the clash with Barcelona on October 26.
His injury adds to the club’s defensive problems, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Antonio Rüdiger also sidelined. The setback leaves manager Xabi Alonso with limited options at the back.
Next up, Madrid travel to Kazakhstan to face Kairat Almaty in the Champions League on Tuesday.
