Real Sociedad President Speaks On Liverpool’s Chance On Signing Takefusa Kubo
Liverpool has received a cautionary notice from Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay regarding Takefusa Kubo.
The Reds have been rumoured to be interested in signing the Japanese forward in the past few days.
There were reports in Japan suggesting that Liverpool was ready to activate the £50 million termination clause in his existing contract.
However, Sociedad president, Aperribay, has recently addressed the possibility of Kubo joining Anfield.
He has stated that discussions have not taken place yet, and he believes Kubo will stay in San Sebastian.
“There is no issue. There are no negotiations with any club,” Aperribay told Mundo Deportivo.
“We’re in the market; anything can happen, but Take is very happy here, and he’s going to continue. We love him very much; let’s hope he stays at La Real forever.”
Even though Aperribay cautioned about Kubo’s future, it seems that several clues have been dropped about a potential transfer to Anfield. In 2019, the winger praised Liverpool and their style of play under Jurgen Klopp.
“The team I find interesting in terms of football right now is Liverpool,” said Kubo.
“When I watch them, I feel like, ‘What an amazing team’. This is a little different from ‘liking’ them; it’s more like, ‘they’re amazing’.”
It is worth noting that one of Kubo’s current teammates recently joined the Reds.
Wataru Endo, who transferred to Liverpool last year, has recently stated that he would be a perfect fit to take over Mo Salah’s position.
Kubo, 23, has had an impressive career despite his young age. He began his journey in Japan before spending four years at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy.
The winger joined Real Madrid in 2019 but never got the chance to play for the first team at the club.
He was loaned out to several other teams before joining Real Sociedad two years back. Kubo has since appeared in 85 matches for the Spanish club and scored 16 goals across all competitions.
If Liverpool decides to take him on board, Kubo would be the Reds’ first acquisition under Arne Slot’s management.
However, they have considered other options, with reports indicating that discussions are underway for a transfer of Wolves winger Pedro Neto.
