Scholes Criticizes Man United Wingers For Selfish Play After UCL Exit
Paul Scholes, a revered figure in Manchester United’s history, didn’t hold back in his criticism of the club’s wingers, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho, following their performances against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
Scholes didn’t mince words, labelling Antony and Garnacho as selfish players whose approach on the field might be affecting Ramus Hojlund‘s form and goal-scoring opportunities this season. Despite their efforts, the duo couldn’t rescue United as the team crashed out of the Champions League with a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford against Bayern Munich.
Scholes expressed his discontent and highlighted the lack of creativity displayed by United’s wide players against Bayern Munich. He voiced his concerns regarding the centre forward’s struggles to receive adequate service. “The big worry for me is the centre forward,” he said.
Despite the forward netting five goals in the Champions League, his drought in the league is unsettling, and Scholes pointed out the absence of clear opportunities, not only in the recent game against Bayern but also in the previous fixture against Bournemouth.
Scholes emphasized the issue of goal-scoring, stressing the need for creativity from wide players like Antony and Garnacho. He criticized their playing style, stating, “They are not players who are looking up, they are players thinking about scoring their own goals, scoring themselves.”
The scrutiny from a legend like Scholes reflects the growing concerns about United’s attacking dynamics and the perceived individualistic approach of some key players, further intensifying the scrutiny around the team’s overall performance.
