Super Eagles Drop In Latest FIFA World Ranking

In the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped from 28th to 30th in the world rankings.

Despite this drop, Nigeria still holds the third position among African teams. This shift in ranking is a result of a series of mixed performances in international friendly matches played in March. The Eagles achieved a 2-1 victory against Ghana in their first friendly but faced a setback with a 2-0 loss to Mali in the subsequent game.

Nigeria had previously reached its highest FIFA ranking since May 2013 in February, following a successful run to the silver medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. Morocco & Senegal continue to lead as the top African teams, with Egypt & Cote d’Ivoire rounding out the top five on the continent. Globally, Argentina retains its top spot, with France in second place, while Belgium has moved up, surpassing Brazil & England in the rankings.

Argentina remains in the top spot, followed by France in second place. Belgium has climbed back to third position, displacing England to fourth place, with Brazil moving to fifth. Portugal has moved up to sixth place and is closing in on the top five. The Netherlands has slipped to seventh place, while Spain, Italy, & Croatia hold onto their eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively.

The USA & Colombia have both moved up two spots to 11th & 12th place respectively. Ukraine & Poland have also made progress, climbing to 22nd & 28th place respectively. Among the top 100 teams, the Czech Republic, Palestine, & Kyrgyz Republic have shown significant improvement, moving up by four places each.

African champions Cote d’Ivoire have advanced to 38th place globally & fifth in Africa, while Egypt occupies the 37th spot worldwide & fourth in Africa in the latest rankings.
